Whenever we made the switch from paper attendance to online attendance we have encountered several hurdles. Some becasue of faulty technology and some due to human error. This is all understandable and I have realized I need to do a better job of communicating what is expected and how to fulfill those expectations. Attendance is VERY IMPORTANT and it's not just about the "numbers" but a way to track people and help us know who to encourage and minister to.
The issues I've seen have actually been widespread across multiple classes not just one or a few. I interpret this a failure on my part. Here are the issues I've seen that we need to address.
1) Forgetting to take roll.
2) Students not being checked who are in attendance.
3) The wrong students being marked present.
4) Adult workers not marking themselves present in both class rolls.
5) Having new guests fill out a guest card.
6) Not typing in names on the class roll when names do not appear on the attendance.
I know taking attendance must feel petty in the grand scheme of all the things you do as a Student worker, but neverhteless, it is important. I hope to create a checklist to help with the routine of taking attendance.
