I don't know if you know this about me or not, but I have lost over 1200 lbs! Yay me! No, not all at once, but over time. I also have probably gained 1300 lbs! Gain some, lose some. You get the picture.
Last night I talked to the teens about setting some goals for the New Year. I always do. Some people don't like New Year's resolutions, but I think they are important. Why? Because if I never set goals EVER, I would be 1600 lbs. and confined to a super-duty Craftmatic bed eating a breakfast of 24 eggs, six pounds of bacon and two loaves of Italian bread every morning for breakfast. If I needed to go to the hospital, they would have to cut the wall out to get me to my over-sized ambulance.
You see, goals are important. And even though I'm by no means where I want to be, had it not been for my many failed attempts of the past, I would definitely be worse off than I am today.
What I want us to understand is, it's okay to try and fail. At least you're trying. And this applies to our spiritual life as well. I got "saved" 8000 times before I was 10 years old. Every year at church camp, I recommitted my life to Jesus. I failed. A lot. I still do. But I'm still trying.
Let's show grace towards one another this year. It doesn't matter if we see people falling two steps backward as long as we are celebrating their one step forward...they are still making progress!
I Thessalonians 5:11 - "Encourage one another and build each other up!"
We are on this journey together! We can do it!
