Information regarding camp registration.

Camp registration has been open for a few weeks now and will stay open right up until we leave. May 16th is the last day to get the early bird rate so we hope you'll take advantage of this opportunity and register before then to save yourself some money!

Visit our church website at www.lgfwb.org, look for the large scrolling pictures in the middle of the home screen, and click on the picture that says "Encounter Camp. Click Here To Register." Or you can just click here.

You can pay at registration with a card or if you would rather pay with a check or cash that is an option also! Just choose your payment method in the drop down menu.

As we say every year, not having money is not a valid reason for you to skip camp! If this is you just click request scholarship in the payment menu on the registration and we will take care of it.

I know this is different than how we've done things in the past and I appreciate your willingness to adapt to help make things easier! And as always thank you for allowing your kids to go hang out in the mountains with us for a week so that we can each grow closer to one another and to God!
Mission Trip 2019!

Most of you have figured out by now that we chose not to do a mission trip in 2018. There are a couple of reasons for that but the main reason is that we knew we were going to take a big trip for 2019 and wanted to focus on raising money for that. We've been praying and seeking where we should go and truth be told we've narrowed it down to two places.

We'll either go to Haiti with an organization called Mission of Hope. Or we will go to Belize with an organization called Experience Mission.

We look forward to the trip either way because they are very similar in the content of what we would be doing. We will have a decision made soon!

One thing that you can be doing now is thinking about fund raising ideas for yourself. We will try to raise as much of the money as we can as a group but the total cost of the trip will fall somewhere right around $1500. We will be traveling the last week of May into the first day or two of June 2019.

Social Media 101: Teens and Social Media Use

The broad reach of teen social networking
According to Pew Internet & American Life Project's "Report on Teens, Social Media, and Privacy," released in May 2013, fully 95% of kids ages 12-17 use the Internet. Eighty-one percent of online teens use some form of social media. Sixty-seven percent of teen social media users visit social sites daily, and 42% visit several times a day.

Facebook is still the #1 social network for teens, but it's fading
While 94% of teen social media users say they have a Facebook profile, and 81% say that Facebook is social site they use most often, it appears that Facebook's teen appeal is fading. According to the Pew report, "Many teens expressed a waning enthusiasm for Facebook." Teens complain of too many adults on the site, advertising, and too much drama interacting with friends.

Teen Twitter use is increasing significantly
Teens largely ignored Twitter when it first appeared and those who used it found it chiefly as a way to stay current with celebrities. In 2009, only 8% of teens used Twitter. Today, the number of teens using Twitter has increased to 24%.

Why teens are migrating to Twitter
The reasoning starts with fewer adults on Twitter than Facebook. While 67% of online adults have Facebook profiles, only 16% are on Twitter. Further, Twitter's platform and character limit (140 characters) allows kids to express their thoughts, feelings, and what they are doing without the drama that Facebook's platform of longer posts, endless comments, and "likes" allows.

Advice for parents who allow kids to use Facebook and Twitter

1. Set the expectation that you will friend (Facebook) or Follow (Twitter) your teenager on their social media account. This requires you to establish your own Facebook and Twitter accounts.

2. Facebook: Use profile privacy settings to limit who can access your teen's content.

3. Twitter: Set Tweet privacy setting to "Protect my Tweets." This requires your teen to approve everyone who follows them, and then only displays tweets to those who have been approved. Without taking this step, anyone can follow your teen, and all tweets are available to the public. Make sure your teen approves you as a follower.
