A note from the coaches:
The trip to Washington Island went very well. Roads were great. Big thank you to Mr. McDowell for helping drive. Big thank you to people who contributed breakfast food. Big thank you for cots to sleep on for the adults. Very nice to get a good night sleep.
Boys won against DC Knights in the first game 59 to 32. DC Knights were a younger team. Everything was clicking so well that the younger 5 played pretty much the whole second half. Everyone scored: Joe scored 12, Ben 8, Noah 7, Aedan 6, Jacob 6, Sawyer 6, Caleb 4, Andy 4, Isaac 4, Ian 2. I say those scores to show how evenly everyone scored. Great team effort all the way around!
In their second game, against Washington Island, the boys lost 63 to 79. We played another great game offensively. Noah had 26 and Aedan had 15. But the other team had two shooters that made 14 3-pointers. 12 of those were in the first half. Only 2 were in the second half. So, we figured out how to stop it but not soon enough.
The girls played Washington Island twice. The first game was competitive but we lost 26 to 37. They had some very good outside shooting. We played well but they played better. Everyone played each half and did well. Sierra scored 16 of our points and did a great job getting the ball up the court and running the offense. We had good rebounding and defense. Had a lot of short shots that just didn't go down or the game would have been closer.
The next morning the girls played Washington Island, again. This one went down to the last shot. We lost by one point. I think it was 31 to 32. The girls did an amazing job of shutting down their top scorer with great team defense. After falling behind by 12 in the third quarter they put on an amazing full court press and eventually went ahead by 1 point with 20 seconds to go. Washington Island went back ahead on 2 made free throws. With 9 seconds we got a shot off from half court that hit the front of the rim but didn't go in.
Great sportsmanship by both the boys and girls. Great interaction with the other teams. Thank you to all the parents out there for supporting us.
