Yesterday in Sunday School we rolled with the punches as Club 45 joined us for the morning! We scrapped our original lesson plan and we talked about The Transfiguration, which was the sermon topic yesterday. We read the story out of Matthew 17:1-13, and we spent time talking about the events leading up to The Transfiguration as well, including Peter declaring that Jesus is the Messiah. We discussed potential reasons why it was Moses and Elijah who appeared with Jesus, and we also talked about how the Lord had spoken similar words about Jesus when He was baptized in the Jordan. In verse 5, the disciples heard a voice from "the cloud" say, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" In Matthew 3:17, the Lord similarly said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.
Last night at Youth Group, I issued our Lenten challenge for the students: I ordered 100 "Life Books" from a ministry that is focused on students giving students the gift of the Gospel. The challenge for the students between now and Easter is to give out all 100 of the books to other students who may have never heard the Gospel before. For the students who were there last night, I gave each of them 3 books to give out, and everyone can continue to get more each Sunday. I cannot wait to see the effect this has on the kids' schools, sports teams, groups they belong to, etc! If you'd like more information on the Life Book, click here. We had a great dinner provided by Angela and Robert Attaway, thank you so much! They also refereed our intense games of whiffle ball and kickball, and provided first aid when a certain youth pastor cut open their leg! Thank you both!
