What's Happening in the Student Ministry?
September 2019
Hey Parents
Trying to keep everyone informed of what's going on in the student ministry in one big post in tough, but hopefully you will find some good stuff here! Thank you for being a parent and thank you for loving your kids to entrust them to Eau Gallie First Baptist Church student ministry! Feel free to reach out to me if you need anything. My phone is 321-750-4919 and email is [email protected].
Additionally we could use some more parents and adults in the youth zone these days. On the last Wednesday of each month, a couple more parent drivers would be great, and if you have the desire to be a youth leader, let's talk! Praying for you all.
Blessings!
Pastor Matt
Join us for our Sky Zone Sunday open jump trip on Sunday, September 1 @ 4 pm. We will leave the church, jump from 5-7 pm and then get some grub before returning home! Bring your Sky Zone socks or plan on buying a pair, and bring $$ for food. You must have your liability form for the church turned in and for Sky Zone found on their website.
You must turn your $20 in by Sunday morning, September 1.
Every last Wednesday of the month, the girls and guys discipleship groups will be going on a field trip for ice cream, coffee, wings, or some fun activity! Pay attention to getting permission/medical forms in on time! New ones were just published that everyone has to do. They can be found in hallway outside the youth zone or online @egfirst.org/publications.
If you serve in the student or kids ministry, we want to invite you to come back at noon for a free lunch and fellowship time to celebrate kids and youth ministry. Please RSVP with Matt or Jordan. Kids are welcomed to attend.
When you think of today's teens you might assume that they all belong to the Millennial generation. But while Millennials will continue to influence culture for decades to come, if you are now raising teens, it's likely that they belong to Generation Z, a new and emerging generation of teenagers.
Even though research into Gen Z is in its infancy, two things are consistently agreed upon by students of culture: 1) Gen Z teens are now on the scene, and 2) they, like all previous generations, will carve out their own unique characteristics and have their own distinctive values, attitudes and behaviors.
Researchers have started turning the lens of examination on Gen Z. One recent study by Northeastern University compiled information obtained from surveys of over 1,000 teens 16-19, and this study may be one of the first to attempt to build our understanding of this new generation.
Here are some characteristics of today's teens that were obtained through the study:
- Today's teens are concerned about the costs of going to college and the debt that is often part of the college experience.
- Two in three fear they might not be able to find a job after college.
- Four in ten expect to be self-employed during their adult career.
- More than half believe that anyone should have a right to become a U.S. citizen no matter how they enter the country.
- Half receive their news online. Only two in ten get news from watching television.
- While technology is simply a part of everyday life for teens, two in three (69%) prefer to interact with friends in-person over interacting online, with only 15% preferring online.
- 70% would not use electronic methods (online, phones, texting, etc.) to ask someone out on a date.
Questions for Parents:
1. If your teen is planning on attending college, how can you help prepare her/him to deal with the financial aspects?
2. If your teen expresses concern about accumulating significant debt to attend college, how can you help her/him think through alternatives to amassing debt?
3. How does your teen view today's significant social issues like immigration?
4. What points of tension might you experience with your teen based on their views of these social issues?
5. Does your teen prefer to connect with friends online or in-person? Why?
6. How can you encourage your teen toward more in-person interaction with their friends?
7. How can you influence your teen toward better integration between life issues and their faith?
Join us each Wednesday for intense (gender separate) discipleship in the Youth Zone. Right now, we are studying Richard Ross's Bible study called Reign which is designed to awaken us the the supreme majesty of God's Son! We are teaching the youth to Adore Christ as King and Redeemer! We've seem several new students over the past couple of weeks as we are 2 weeks into the 8 week study. It's never too late to join. Parents..encourage your students to be there on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights!
Join us every Sunday morning for a large group gathering in table groups in the youth zone as we journey through the Bible together using the D6 curriculum beginning at 9:15 am. On the first Sunday of the month we always have donuts and on the 3rd Sunday of the month, the Hayes (Linda and Richard) always bring their famous breakfast casserole! Don't underestimate the importance of Bible study! Additionally, we play a Kahoot game to begin each Sunday with a chance to win CAMP BUCKS!
