SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION!!!
I can only imagine the amount of stress that builds with school starting, extracurricular activities happening, family time, church and so much more.
I was reading an article this week that is titled, "An Epidemic of Anxiety and Depression" by Group. In this article they hit on a study that was released by the Pew Research Center and they indicate that almost three-quarters of US Teenagers say anxiety and depression are "big issues" for them. They list three major stressors in a students life is:
1) Anxiety over their physical safety -- this is more directed at schools that have seen mass shootings but safety concern is moving into all schools.
2) Constant surveillance by peers on social media - the "fear of missing out" creates "background noise" of worry.
3) Rapid changes in their emotional needs - Students are not just going through physical changes but emotional and spiritual ones as well.
With stress being a real thing in student's lives, which can lead to anxiety and depression, let's be proactive in our prayer and support of our students! Let's remind them where their strength and rest comes from.
"fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10
In the month of September we will be talking about Identity:
Week 1) Who is God
Week 2) Who is Jesus
Week 3) Who Am I (how I view myself)
Week 4) How Christ Views you
One last thing. September 8th is our church Pic-nic. High School Youth group will not meet that night so we can hang out as a church and enjoy our time together.
Praying for you all,
Shawn
