Developing an Attitude of Gratitude
Here we are in Thanksgiving season again! I love Thanksgiving because as Christ-followers we are able to have a constant “Attitude of Gratitude.” I mean, think about it. We have so much to be thankful for.... Not only the many blessings God has given us here on earth (the list would be too long to write!) but more importantly, the goodness we find in his promises.
1. God is good because He gives us free and amazing gifts! Do we deserve God’s kindness, mercy, & forgiveness? No. But God loves us and gives us these free gifts anyways. What a great reason to be thankful!
2. God is Good because He loves us unconditionally! No strings attached! Disobey Him? He still loves you. Walk away from His Word? He still loves you. God loves us not for what we’ve done but for who we are in Him. This is a core truth about God, and a reason to be thankful!
3. God is good because He offers us life forever. He offers us life to the full here & now (see John 10:10) and someday, life in heaven! Perfect life forever! No more hurt, sorrow, or sin. What a wonderful reason to be thankful!
As Christians, we can have an Attitude of Gratitude all the time, no matter what. We know that whatever comes- sickness, death, conflict, fears, & trials- our times are in God’s hands. Jesus said, in effect, “Don’t be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of you tomorrow, too.” (see Matthew 6:34).
As parents, you set the mood for Thanksgiving celebrations. It can be a hectic, worrisome, busy time, OR you can shake it off & rely on God to pull it all together. You set the pace for your family as to whether Thanksgiving Day will be a day of family, friends, food, & football, or if the bar will be raised to a holiday where giving thanks is the focus of the celebration.
God is always good, so what are you waiting for? Thanksgiving day? Make November a season for you & your family to give thanks no matter the circumstances!
Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His faithful love endures forever. --Psalm 106:1 (NLT)
Blessings on your Thanksgiving preparations & celebrations,
Miss Kenzie
