Parents,
This past Wednesday night (1/15/20) we dove into chapter one of the gospel of John. We looked at John 1:1-13, and as we told the students we could spend so much more time because there is so much in these 13 verses. But our main focus this week was to look at God Becoming A Human Being. We had three main points that we covered: 1) In the beginning, 2)But Why?, and 3) The Decision.
John starts out his gospel with the phrase "in the beginning" because he wanted to take us back to Gensis 1:1. He wants us to understand and know that Jesus was in there in the beginning but not only that He has always been. Jesus was never created, He has always existed. But not only that He wants us to understate that Jesus is God. So if Jesus has always existed and is God then why did He become a human being? Why did He come? Because we were dead in need of life and rescuing. Because the world is dead in their sins, God sent John the Baptist to testify of this light that had come so that they may believe. So as we hear this good news that brings us to a life defining decision to make. Are we going to believe?
Now if we have believed and if we are a child of God then we have been given this life that Jesus offers and the light of Jesus is within us. So now we must go live this life He has given us and let our light shine in the dark world we live in so that others might believe.
Conversational Questions:
1)So how is John 1:1 and Genesis 1:1 connected?
2)Who is Jesus?
3)How are you shining your light of Jesus?
