Wow! What can I say? This March was a crazy month, and it looks like April will be just as crazy with the COVID-19 virus spreading rapidly in our country and in our world.
I want to share a brief word for you parents in these crazy times.
Last week the Youth and I looked at the event in Matthew 8:23-27 where Jesus calms the wind and the seas. If you aren't familiar with the story let me give you a paraphrased version.
Jesus and his disciples head out to sea and they are met with a huge storm! The disciples and people on the boat begin to panic and freak out, but Jesus was asleep in the boat. They wake him up, scared for their lives, and he wakes up and tells them "Why are you fearful, you of little faith?" and then he rebukes the wind and the seas and the storm ceased. Everyone in the boat was amazed and they asked: "what kind of man is this that even the winds and the sea obey him?"
Heres the application for us: We are obviously in a storm right now! Things are rapidly changing, fear is overwhelmingly gripping people, and a lot of people are being negatively affected by COVID-19.
I shared a verse that has been weighing heavy on my heart with the students: Philippians 4:6-7 and in that verse we see three elements: a command, an action, and a promise.
Command: "Do not be anxious" (Don’t worry about anything!)
Action: "by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." (Cling to Jesus!)
Promise: "Peace of God will guard your hearts in Christ Jesus" (He will give you hope and peace through Jesus!)
If Jesus can calm the winds and the sea, he can calm the STORMS in our life as well. Cling to him, and have faith!
Emily and I are praying for you and your children, and if there is anything we can do to help out please do not hesitate to reach out to us. If you need someone to talk to or your kids do, our phones are on 24/7!
