Sometimes there are things that just get stuck in your head and you can’t stop thinking of them or even singing the song that is there. I have found myself thinking about and even singing the song ‘I Just Feel Like Something Good Is About To Happen,’ over and over the last few days. I love the song and I love the message that it reminds us all about. But today I realized that something good is about to happen and that is the celebration of the birth of our Savior. On Christmas we remember when God came to us in the form of a baby and was born in a humble manger in Bethlehem. A great event that changed eternity for every man, woman and child that has ever lived or will live on this earth. That truly is something good that took place and will be celebrated very soon. It is a simple reminder to us of how great God’s love is for us. His love is so great that we can’t comprehend or fathom the fullness of the gift He gave.
I hope each of us can just stop and listen as well as celebrate the gift of love this Christmas season. There is no other time of the year when everyone is as caring, loving, and thoughtful towards others than they are at Christmas time. It is such a beautiful and joyful season and I look forward to this time every year. After all isn’t love what Christmas is all about. Because God loved us so much, He sent us the greatest gift ever; His Son, Jesus Christ. All of the festivities; the lights, the sounds, the trees, the gifts, the carols, the candy; they all become means of sharing with one another as we celebrate the birth of our Savior.
When you stop and look at all that is going on around us at Christmas time you can’t help but notice that something big is happening. One time back in the old days a pioneer was traveling westward across the Great Plains when all of a sudden he came to a screeching halt at the edge of the Grand Canyon. He gawked at the great sight before him: a vast chasm one mile down, eighteen miles across and more than a hundred miles long! He gasped at the sight and said to himself, “Something musta happened here!”
If someone were to come to our world for the first time during the Christmas season and they saw all the lights, the decorations, the trees, the parties and the candlelight services, they might also say, “Something must have happened here!” I hope that we would be the first to tell them that yes, something did happen and it was one of the greatest events ever! God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to us and we are celebrating the birth of the Christ Child, on that first Christmas; He is Emmanuel, God with us!!
My prayer for you is that God’s gift will be the reason you celebrate this year. Merry Christmas!
