March is a month that we often start preparing for spring. My fishing fever starts kicking into high gear and I think about what all I need to do to prepare my rods and reels as well as getting the boat ready to go. There are many preparations to be made to be successful when you go fishing. I love this funny little story I heard about being prepared as well. Let me share it with you.
It was a cold winter day. An old man walked out onto a frozen lake, cut a hole in the ice and dropped in his fishing line. He was there for almost an hour, without even a nibble, when a young boy walked out onto the ice, cut a hole in the ice not far from him. The young boy dropped his fishing line and minutes later he hooked a Largemouth Bass. The old man couldn't believe his eyes but chalked it up to plain luck. But, shortly thereafter, the young boy pulled in another large catch. The young boy kept catching fish after fish. Finally, the old man couldn't take it any longer. "Son, I've been here for over an hour without even a nibble. You've been here only a few minutes and have caught a half dozen fish! How do you do it?" The boy responded, "Roo raf roo reep ra rums rrarm." "What was that?" the old man asked. Again the boy responded, "Roo raf roo reep ra rums rarrm." "Look," said the old man, "I can't understand a word you're saying." The boy spit the contents of his mouth into his hand and said, "You have to keep the worms warm!"
We like to be prepared, but that might be a bit further than we want to go. However, we do want to be prepared not only for fishing but for everything that comes around to us each day and season. The same thing goes for us in the church. We must prepare for all that God gives us to do, whether it is worship, telling others about Jesus or simply praying for those that have needs.
One thing that is coming up very soon that I want us to prepare for is Easter. Easter is the great celebration of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. It is a day that we focus on the salvation we have through Christ and His victory over death. Are you preparing for this? There is nothing more important for us to do than to make preparations for this great celebration. We do this through prayer and reading God’s Word, as well as inviting your friends and neighbors. We will be celebrating Easter with a 3 week series called, “This Is Love.” Looking at how the love of Jesus forgives our sins, it conquers death and love makes all things new.
Please begin preparing for this day by praying that hearts and lives will be challenged and changed and the church will find new strength and resolve because of His great love! God wants to use each one of us so Prepare Today!
Trusting Him,
