[Said mysteriously...almost whispered] "In a land before time...in the 2nd and 3rd centuries--" okay, well, that's not quite right. I'm pretty sure that people marked time because the season prior to Easter (which we call Lent!) was a one in which people who desired to claim the Christian faith prepared themselves to be received into the Church. Mostly, their time of preparation was spent in fasting, prayer, confession of sin, faith-based instruction, and the exorcism of demons...
Of course, we won't be doing most of that--you won't have any demons exorcised, nor will you be asked to fast or confess your sins to us during a time of confession, but you will have some good old faith-based instruction.
For the new people in our group, our Sunday evening sessions will serve as a time of Confirmation--it's a time to learn more about what we believe and do in The United Methodist Church! And at the end, if you want to be confirmed in our church, that's great. But there's no pressure to do so at all.
For those in our group who have already been confirmed, you'll learn even more about the UMC and have a chance to re-affirm your faith. That's why we're using a new program called Affirm--it's the best of both worlds: for those already confirmed and those not yet confirmed.
So, join us beginning Sunday, February 28 @ 6:30 PM for the Affirm program! For a full schedule, see the events section below! Please note that Mission Wednesdays--each week during March--are back in a BIG way!
