June is a month when we are able to spend some time thinking about fathers. We are given a day to honor, remember, and show our love to our fathers. As we think back over the good times we have had with our fathers, if you are like me there are so many special times that comes to mind. There are so many memories that are forever etched into my mind, that I will cherish my entire life.
Sometimes we just look back and remember the good times and we forget now that we are fathers it is up to us to create memories for our families and children. Fathers, what kind of memories are you making today for your children? As fathers we have a huge job of providing, protecting, teaching, disciplining and training children as they grow up. But one of the biggest responsibilities that all fathers have is to raise our children in the love and knowledge of God. I hope that each of you will commit yourself to carrying out the duties of a Christian father. Let me give you a list of nine things that Kenneth McClain shares that a Christian father will do:
Put the Kingdom of God first in his life and teach the same to his family.
Teach his sons and daughters to love, respect and obey their parents.
Be a loving and considerate father and husband.
Not only provide the physical things, but the spiritual things as well for his family.
Be honest in all of his dealings with others.
Set aside the first day of the week for his family to attend services to worship God.
Be big enough to love and respect the desires and freedoms of each family member.
Rule his household with great love.
Never speak or act in a manner that is unbecoming to a Christian father.
When we carry out these things not only will we be remembered for fun and games we will be sharing Jesus with them and He will change their eternity.
Because We're His,
