Who You Sit With Matters
The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that is found in the Book of Daniel shows us what it means to have friends who point us toward the loving Father. What I love about this story is that when the Israelites were exiled, there comes a point when they, along with the other Babylonians, were commanded by Nebuchadnezzar to worship his 90-foot statue. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego all refused to do so. They refused so much so that they would eventually be thrown in a fiery furnace. An Angel of the Lord shows up and keeps these three guys safe from harm and no hair or fringe from their clothing was singed. There's a ton more to talk about from this section of Scripture. If you're interested, you can read Daniel 3.

What's amazing about this event is that these three friends were there for each other. You can bet that living in exile in a foreign land would lend an easy target to losing one's faith, but these three guys chose to stick together and fight. They knew God was real and that He was a transformational God. They knew that regardless of what happened in this situation, faithfulness to their God was most important. I love the aspect that these friends stuck together and had one another's backs. They didn't let one another slip and fall, but they were there to make sure they all stayed in the battle. This is the response given from the three friends to Nebuchadnezzar during their confrontation:

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

Daniel 3:16-18 NLT

Who you sit with matters. As you walk out in your faith walk, remember that we are more likely to keep up with the fight when our band of brothers and sisters are sitting right there with us.

Questions to Ponder:

Who are you sitting with? Are they helping you grow closer to Jesus? Who is someone you walk with that will challenge you in your walk with Jesus?

Last Wednesday night, we looked at what it meant to make Sabbath a rhythm in our week! We saw that this seventh day was a day that points to the eternal rest that we will one day get to be a part of when Jesus makes all things new! We are going through a series we're calling 'Base Camp' that is all about providing tools and resources to help us in our faith and as we go out to show others the love of Jesus! The Ways of the Kingdom

This past Sunday, we looked at the Beatitudes and saw that Jesus' Kingdom is available to everyone!

'The Ways of the Kingdom' is a deep dive through Jesus' Semon on the Mount! We will be challenged and get to hear about some of the specifics of the New Kingdom that Jesus brought to earth and how we can be a part of it!

Just Dance and Karaoke Night

Small Groups - gods at war
January 31LOCATION: On Campus
Small groups launch on January 31st and we are THRILLED! A student leader will reach out to you with more information of location, your facilitator, and more. This semester, we are doing a book study called gods at war: Defeating the Idols that Battle For Your Heart, by Kyle Idleman. In each of our groups, we will look at how to defeat the idols that battle for our hearts and let God truly transform us through these battles. Sign up to get involved!

Mission Trip to Indy
March 6 - March 9LOCATION: Shelbyville Community Church
During the first half of our Spring Break, we are headed to serve a partner church, Shelbyville Community Church, with their All-In Discipleship journey. They are planting different non-profit and for-profit organizations to reach the community with the Gospel. Some of these organizations are to build job skills and discipleship to help reintegrate people who've been in prison, addiction, and abuse. They've planted a pre-school this year to provide the love of Jesus to kids as they enter into the education system. They have a home for women who have gone through sexual abuse or alcoholism to build them up with the love of Jesus and give them counseling. We'll be doing a lot of the behind-the-scenes things to help serve them and help them out with projects that are difficult for them to get to so that they can do what only they can do, serve the cities of Shelbyville and Indianapolis.

Bridge Builders Mission Trip to Chicago
May 8 - May 13
“BridgeBuilders is an experiential service-learning program that promotes significant transformation through Christ. Visiting teams spend a full week or a week-end with us in Woodlawn on Chicago’s South Side— a beautiful and resilient community that faces many challenges. While with us, we will help participants to challenge their assumptions, enter into difficult conversations, and to wrestle with how Biblical truths can inform their responses to the painful realities of poverty, racism and more. Toward those ends, we introduce participants to community members to whom they can listen and from whom they will learn.
