Students and Parents,

 

The more individuals and families I talk to the more I hear January just felt like extended December. The New Year seemed to just happen upon most people and the new COVID variant really hit a lot of families!

 

But we know, January had a lot of good parts too! Our Groups continued to meet, the Gathering still happened, and our events still allowed students to gather. Here are FOUR exciting things that happened in January as well as ONE reminder that I have for you:

 

1) We officially handed the reigns of FSM Worship to Audrey Aaby and Cole Brewer, two FSM Seniors, and they have been working with about a dozen students to bring worship to us every week.

 

2) We ended the month with a baptism! It was so great to hear Melissa Bell's story and see her make her proclamation of faith public by getting baptized this past Sunday.

 

3) We had 3 leaders (Reece Heald, Christine Benner, and Paul Rodgers) share their stories of faith as we introduced our 2022 theme, The Goodness of God.

 

4) Our High School Room, which serves as our primary meeting space for The Gathering, FINALLY got drywall, paint, and flooring. It feels like a real room again and is around the corner from completion!

 

The Reminder: In FSM we encouraged students through our series, Atomic, to start new healthy habits to grow their faith. We encouraged them to make it a habit to spend time with God, grow healthy friendships, share their faith, and worship with their life. At Meet in the Middle Josiah Finnestad, a High School Senior, reinforced that idea for all of our Middle School students by challenging them to keep Jesus out of their closet and lead with him in their life. The reminder is this, just because January came and went and those messages are all in the rear view mirror doesn't mean it's too late to start a new habit and get right with God!

 

February is a new month with new possibilities, challenges, and ways to connect with God and others. Take a look below for everything coming up in February and our updated calendar!

Thank you once again for being so flexible and understanding with our calendar changes! There are so many variables that affect what we do every week and 23 months into this pandemic there are still curveballs.

 

We have a few changes in February and March, an updated calendar with all this information is linked below:

- CANCELED: @8 originally scheduled for February 4th (this Friday) is canceled.

 

- POSTPONED: Broomball/Ice Skating re-scheduled for February 23rd is postponed until after hockey season, look for an update in the late Spring/early Summer.

 

- ADDED: High School BYOG (Bring Your Own Game) - This is a play on our in house Late Night Apps and is scheduled for Wednesday, February 23rd. The details are below.

 

- RESCHEDULED: High School @8 on Friday, March 4th is now scheduled for Friday, March 18th

 

- NO CHANGES: Both the February and March Meet in the Middle's have not changed.

The Gathering in February —

The Gathering meets every Sunday in February.

 

The Gathering is for 7th-12th grade students. We gather to worship together, take a look into God’s word, and have some fun! The Gathering is a great place to get to know God and meet some new people. Join us every Sunday morning during the 9:30am service.

Familia - 4-Week Series

Family is a concept understood all over the world, in every country, culture, and language, but no two families are the same. We all have our unique family structures, traditions, values, quirks, problems, and dysfunctions. And, we all know that it’s not always easy to love (or even like) our families, at least sometimes. Now this isn’t new information, but the Bible is full of guidance on how to love each other well — so, for the sake of our family we might have to be willing to apply those principals at home too! In this series, we’ll take a look at some of the lessons learned by Jesus-followers in the early days of the church, because learning how to be part of God’s family might help us learn how to be part of our own families. In God’s family, we support each other, pray for each other, reconcile with each other, and love each other.

 

Sunday, February 6th - Series: Familia

This week, we'll see what Paul advised the church of Galatia to do when they were busy arguing and fault-finding with each other.

Sunday, February 13th - Series: Familia

This week, we'll see what Paul challenged the Colossians and Thessalonians to pray for on each other's behalf.

THE BIG IDEA: In God's family we pray for each other.

WHERE IN GOD'S WORD: Colossians 1:1–14; I Thessalonians 5:16–18; Philippians 4:6

 

Sunday, February 20th - Series: Familia

This week, we'll see how Jesus' work to reconcile with us should lead us to working toward reconciliation with others.

THE BIG IDEA: In God's family we reconcile with each other.

WHERE IN GOD'S WORD: Ephesians 4:31-5:2; Colossians 1:21–22; Hebrews 12:14

 

Sunday, February 27th - Series: Familia

This week, we'll see how and why the apostle John challenged the early followers of Jesus to love each other well.

THE BIG IDEA: In God's family we love each other.

WHERE IN GOD'S WORD: I John 3:16-18, 4:7–12; John 15:9–17; I Corinthians 13:4-7
