Just so you know... I am still trying to not be so tired! HA. We are back from our 2022 youth mission trip!
I think that might be the consensus of most all those that attended and went on the Youth Mission trip. It was hot (an understatement for sure)! There was work, there was hearding of cats, there was giant bear slides, Smoreitos, sweat, crazy hats, around 400 pictures taken and so much more. July 31st-Aug. 6th was the Youth Mission trip for 2022.
This year we went back to Lincoln NE to help serve at Camp Sonshine. Camp Sonshine consist of 3 different camp grounds that offer day camps and overnight camps. The students of FBC were able to serve at their main camp group for their day camp. We were given the role of AC (or Assistant Counselor). The Assistant counselor position had a variety of duties that needed to occur. We were the welcome crew. The welcome crew would wear brightly colored vest, costumes and hats to get the kids excited about the days events. We also ran many of the activities like: Archery, paintball, go-karts, arts and crafts, oasis/waterslides, how to cook over a fire, to building forts in the woods and so much more.
Not only was that apart of our duties we were also to jump in and help with morning/closing assembly. This was to get the kids ready to go with their counselors for the day. Many fun songs and dancing occurred here. Lastly (but Im sure I am forgetting much), some of the students would be with groups all day. Helping with the kids that were in groups.
It honestly took us a day or so to figure out our groove with the camp. In the midst of us figuring out our groove with Campsonshine we made opportunities to share the Gospel with the kids. A couple of our students were over the Oasis and before the kiddos were able to go on the water equipment they got to hear a bible story. We had another student take a moment and share the Gospel before they were allowed to play Ga-Ga ball. We had another student use God's creation of a leaf to talk about how we are uniquely made in his image.
There were more many other opportunities students took to show and tell the Gospel to the children we worked with. Thank you Church family for taking the time pray and sending us off to Lincoln NE for our 2022 summer mission trip.
I went away with what Paul writes in Philippians 2:3-8, "Do nothing from Selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."
