WEEK 3 BIG IDEA: When you still have questions, look to God's word.
We continued in the series "Reasonable Doubt," and we looked at the topic of asking questions. We've seen the disciples ask Jesus questions, and Jesus wouldn't directly answer their immediate questions, but seem to answer deeper questions the disciples would've had. Answers like reminding them how the scriptures were fulfilled through Jesus and how they can rely on God and His word for that reason. We also encouraged the students to never be afraid to ask the dumb questions, because the dumb questions can sometimes lead to the deeper questions that lead to faith and understanding.
On Wednesday nights, we began a series called "Story is King."
A great story with a great ending use a variety of themes to tell that story. Themes like redemption, forgiveness, love, reconciliation, and justice can portray incredible stories as we can see them being lived out of the big screen. The story of the Gospel uses these elements and during this series, we're going to look at clips from movies and t.v series to see these themes and how it relates to the gospel story to further help us learn the gospel and remind us what the Gospel story is, learn about our story of God working in our life and our testimony we can share and how we can share that story with others.
Last Wednesday, we looked at the show "The Good Place" and looked at how sometimes we can try to pretend we have our life together so that we can feel like we earned a spot to be in the Good Place, or earn a place in church. But we looked at how Jesus simply tells us to come, that it isn't by works but through faith that we are saved. We also saw that God showed us love in this way: that while we were still sinners, Christ still died for us. It is a reminder that we don't have to try and look good on the outside to receive love from God, but to simply have faith, receive it, and then allow that love transform our lives to live like Christ.
