In their book, Faith for Exiles, David Kinnaman & Mark Matlock detail 5 distinct “marks” that most resilient Christians (i.e. Christians who remain in the faith after graduation) have in common.
One of those 5 marks, is that they have close personal friendships with adults in their faith communities aside from their parents. In fact, 77 percent of all young adults who would be classified as resilient Christians said this to be true in their lives.
It is our hope and desire to leverage mentoring to help foster meaningful intergenerational relationships for young people in our faith communities so they will be shaped into resilient Christ followers.
Our Goals
Students are placed in mentoring groups with 2-5 students and then paired with a trained adult leader.
They find mutually convenient times they can meet together 18-24 times throughout the course of the year for approximately 90 minutes.
Meetings will typically take place in a public setting (i.e. coffee shop/restaurant).
At each meeting the adult leader will
1) Cultivate a healthy relationship with their mentees
2) Check in the with each student
3) Direct spiritual discussions
4) Help students set personal growth goals for their faith
5) And provide a safe place for students to explore and exercise their faith
To sign up students must fill out the 24-25 Mentoring Registration Form.
When matched, the mentor will contact parents of the mentee via text or phone call to introduce themselves.
