A Conversation About Tough Conversations
Sometimes it's really tough to talk to your kids so you just avoid addressing tough things and cut your losses! OR maybe you try to talk to them so much that you feel like your voice is getting drowned out. Either way, you're not alone. Three helpful steps to begin having tough conversations...
________________________________________________________________________________________________
1. Start by loving them well
By far the most important steps you can take to make tough conversations easier are:
1. Make it a habit to show you care about your kids by taking an interest in what they have to say and the things they enjoy.
2. As they grow up, make it part of your family culture to have open and ongoing conversations about difficult topics.
In other words, be proactive, not reactive.
2. Be creative & intentional
If we wait for these conversations to happen naturally, we’ll wait too long. So be on the lookout for ways to intentionally raise hard topics with your children. For example, you could use experiences from daily life, such as:
• situations in TV shows and movies
• what they’re learning at school
• social media
• YouTube videos
• their friends
• billboards
• the news
• sermons
• the Bible
3. Pray & look for opportunities
Frankly, praying and looking for opportunities is one of the best pieces of advice we can offer! Parenting requires so much wisdom because you face many circumstances where it’s not clear which path is best. In such situations—which we all face whether or not we’re parents—we can and should bring our questions before the Lord, asking for wisdom and guidance.

I have had a couple of families take us up on this attempt to spend some intentional time having faith conversations with their family. It has been a cool thing for them. If you have any interest, email me at [email protected] for the details and we can get you started.
This is simply helping families create some intentional moments for discipling your teenager by adjusting one thing you likely already do every week. You would commit to taking one family dinner night a week for 5-6 weeks to work through a discipleship book together. We will provide some guidance, we just need the families.

Thank you so much for your prayers for our TIME trips! The Atlanta team spent the week serving with 7 Bridges to Recovery. The Houston team's trip was cut short due to Hurricane Beryl, but they still made the most out of the time they were together!
