The Home Remedy: Episode II.
We had such a good group of students who participated in the Home Remedy: Episode II two weeks ago. I was so encouraged as I looked over the worship services and saw tons of people involving themselves in the worship of Jesus. And I know not every student has begun the all important walk in pursuit of Christ, but I do believe that weekends like this one are an important spiritual step in our spiritual journeys. Deciding to walk with, and follow Jesus, His promises found in the Bible, and a second family - like our church family - will help students find hope, encouragement and purpose.

It is my desire at Second for every person to connect with Jesus, connect with each other, and cultivate a consistent walk with The God who created them!! Because of this, our student ministry tries to provide a number of things to make this possible. Sunday and Wednesday experiences are created with students in mind, as are: our summer camps, YO Nights, and our youth events from month to month.

My genuine desire is that these kids will plug in to Second, a great church home of Bible-Believing, Jesus-loving people who want to serve their Savior. We ALL need a church where we belong and feel like we’re growing in a spiritual way, and weekends like this one reignite a spark within us to love and serve the Savior and His church. The Home Remedy: Episode II was awesome and I hope your kids had some conversations with you about it. They seemed to have a blast... even if they won't tell you that!!

High School Only LAKE TRIP
March 29 - March 309am - 1:30pmLOCATION: Lake House at Lake Jackson
As you've probably heard by now, we had to cancel our high school trip to serve at Brewton Parker College during the week of spring break.

BUT

We are going to take an overnight trip for high schoolers only to a beautiful lake house on Lake Jackson. Here's the agenda currently:

Wednesday, March 29th:

9:00am - leave SBC and head to the Tanger Outlets in McDonough

11:30am - Eat lunch at Shane's Rib Shack

1:00pm - Head to the lake house and spend the afternoon on the lake

7:00pm - Dinner at the lake

8:00ish - Group Bible study

Midnight - Go to Bed

Thursday, March 30th:

9:00am - Breakfast

Morning Time - hang out

Noon - Head back home.

What is Mission Warner Robins?

The goal of Mission WR is to equip our students with missional opportunities that meet real needs and demonstrate God’s love. Our group will experience the needs and heartbeat of our city, and we will try to provide our youth and adults with opportunities to reach our community physically and spiritually through servant-hood and a personal commitment to missions.

What types of activities will we be doing?

Last year we helped move some classrooms around for the local schools, trim limbs, do significant work on our church campus, stacked food pantries, served lunches, complete tons of yardwork in the community, and MUCH more!

What does the schedule look like on a typical day?

The dates are dates are July 12^th-16^th. The students will be sleeping on air mattresses at our church campus all week long.

Monday - Focused on projects that will benefit our church / other ministries.
- 8:00- Check-in
- 8:45- Breakfast
- 10:00-4:00- Students working on different job assignments
- 4:00-5:30- Showers & free time
- 5:30- Supper
- 7:00-8:15- Worship
- 9:00-10:15- Nightly Activity (group game)
- 11:15-11:30- Lights Out
Tuesday-Thursday - Yard work for elderly, helping teachers at local schools, playing with kids at the Rec Dept, Christian Social Ministry, soup kitchens, WOW Night at church, and much more…
- 8:00- Breakfast
- 9:00- Prepare lunches & equipment for job sites
- 10:00-4:00- Students working at job sites
- 4:00-5:30- Showers & free time
- 5:30- Supper
- 7:00-8:30- Worship
- 9:00-10:15- Nightly Activity (group game)

Friday - Finish up projects, clean the church and vans, and wrap the week up.
- 8:00- Breakfast
- 9:00- Prepare lunches & equipment for job sites

- 7:00-8:30- Worship
- Students dismissed after worship that evening.
Cost: The student cost is just $25, and this includes about 15 meals.

Culture Snapshot: Today's Marijuana 3X More Potent Than When You Were a Teen

Today's marijuana is not the same weed that was available when your generation was growing up as teenagers. These days, marijuana carries a much bigger punch.

A new study released in March 2015 found that marijuana today is up to three times more powerful than back in the 1980s.

The research was conducted in Colorado using more than 600 legal marijuana samples provided by recreational retail merchants. Results of the study found that the test samples contained quantities of the chemical that makes people "high" - tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) --of between 20% and 30%. By contrast, the THC levels from marijuana samples tested during the 1980s were all under 10%.

Why the big uptick in the levels of THC in marijuana? The researchers pointed to pot growers crossbreeding different marijuana strains - as users have demanded stronger marijuana -- for the cause of the increase.

Why it matters:

- Cultural acceptance of recreational marijuana use (and specifically within youth culture) is on the rise. Parents should assume that their teenagers will be exposed to marijuana use.

- Teens might be aware of the increase of marijuana potency, but likely do not have any realistic perspective of what more powerful pot means, especially for those teens who have never experimented with marijuana before.

- Parents should take the initiative to discuss marijuana use with their teenagers, to gain insight into the prevailing attitudes and behaviors concerning marijuana among their teen's peers and friends, and to set clear expectations and consequences regarding experimentation and use by their kids.
